Diabetes is considered as one of the world's most dangerous human silent-killer. It is a health problem that last for a long period of time that needs proper control. Eye Problem Complication
Cataracts: it can be seen plainly on the lens of an eye - thickening and clouding of the lens itself. The lens of the eyes is the one that focus on the one what would you like to see. These cataracts can give blurry vision of the eye and makes it hard to see especially during at night time. This eye problem is commonly found to those who have high blood sugar levels for a long period of time.
It needs surgery to remove cataracts.
Retinopathy: if cataracts attack lens of the eyes, retinopathy is of the retina - the light sensitive layer at the back of the eye. This is due to damage of the growth problems of tiny blood vessels of the retina.
However, noticeable changes in the retinal vessels doesn't seem to appear to anyone unless person has reached puberty and has long been to have diabetes for longer especially if it is already complicated with hypertension or use of smoking and tobacco-chewing.
RETINOPATHY
This is one of the reasons why young teens with diabetes need to have a regular annual check up because having this kind of eye problem in youngsters could not be noticeable at first. This is very scary and dangerous because it can cause blindness if it would not be properly treated well but an eye doctor - it needs to be checked more often. Having retinopathy in advance status will need laser treatment to prevent the effected person losses vision.
Glaucoma: In this kind of eye problem, pressure accumulates inside the eye which can cause a decrease of blood flow going to the retina and optic nerve and create damage. It can cause blindness forever if not treated earlier. However the risk grows higher as people grows older and older and has long been affected with diabetes. Oral medications needed to lower the pressure inside the eye and sometimes it needs eye surgery.
